We are His workmanship, and are all a part of the body of Christ called to serve 24/7.”

Pre-school Director, Mrs. Amy Sanctuary

I started my preschool career in 2002, after graduating from CSUS with a BA in Liberal Studies concentrating on Human Development. I have always loved children and often am described as an “old soul”. My passion is the development of children and being a part of their growth, both in education and as a person. My heart rejoices with their sucess and finds determination when they face a challenge.

I have been married to my husband, Mark for 16 years and have two boys, Nick (2nd grade) and Ben (Kindergarten). My children attend Summit and are a daily testimony to the rewards of Christian education. Keeping up with them is both chaos and bliss and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. In the last year we have grown our family by adding two cats and, most recently, a Standard Poodle puppy. In my “free time” I enjoy gardening, reading, scrapbooking, and road trips with my boys. My favorite season is Fall in anticipation of family birthdays and the celebration of the birth of our King Jesus!

I look forward to the chance to be a part of your child’s educational and spiritual walk and to answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact me at any time through email at preschool@summitcs.net .

Preschool Teacher, Kelley Myers

I am so excited to be part of the Summit family!  What a great place for us to learn more about God’s love together!

As a Fair Oaks native, I was born and raised here and attended local schools.  I was blessed to attend Biola University to earn my BA in Elementary Education.  I came home to earn my teaching credential at National University and am currently finishing my Masters Degree in Education.

My education career began in 1999 and I taught primary grades in San Juan Unified and North Sacramento School Districts for 5 years.   I then embarked on a new career as a mom!  My husband Jay and I have been married for thirteen years and we have four boys ages 2,5,7 and 9.  It is certainly a challenge and a joy to be a parent!  I have stayed active in the educational community during my time as a mom by substitute teaching for SJUSD and volunteering in my own kids’ classrooms, primarily as an art docent.

My 9-year-old would say I’m good at “making smoothies, folding laundry and keeping things clean.”  But I really enjoy hiking, laughing, creating art, singing, laying on the beach and hanging out with family.  We are active members at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church and enjoy helping where we can in family ministry.

Preschool is such a fun time of social development and exploration of God’s creation!  Come join us, don’t miss out!

Kindergarten Mrs. Jody BaerJody Baer

Ms. Jody Baer was called into Christian education because of her desire to share her passion – teaching God’s word to children. Communicating godly principles in a way children can understand and apply to their lives, is part of her interactive teaching style.

Graduating from California State University Long Beach in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts, she went on to receive her Preliminary California Teaching Certificate for Preschool through Adult. College was not all academics for her. During her five year stint at Long Beach she was a collegiate gymnast and managed a gymnastics facility to pay for her education.

Furthering her education she attended an intensive six month Bible college that laid the Biblical foundation for her personal walk with the Lord, which paved the way for parenting her three children and teaching in Christian schools.

Over the years she has coached gymnastics for 30 years, was a volunteer select soccer coach for boys for 7 years, coached basketball, tennis, swimming, and diving. She is a member of USA Gymnastics which sponsors a variety of professional development certifications that include Safety, Kinder Accreditation, Staff Development and Training, Gross Motor Development – (providing 30 reading readiness skills), and CPR/First Aid.

Serving God by being involved with God’s little people and big people at church and at school continues to bring joy to her life. She considers it an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to teach kindergarteners here at Summit Christian School, along side a staff that is so gifted by God to serve Him. Her Kindergarten class is a place of color and excitement as she ignites the desire to discover God’s world in the hearts and minds of her students through a wide variety of approaches to learning.

First Grade- Ms. Lois Andrakowicz

Ms. Andrakowicz has over 18 years experience teaching both elementary and junior high, however her love is teaching first grade.  Ms. “A”, as she is called, graduated from Calvin College with a BA in elementary education and a group minor in fine arts/music emphasis. She also serves Summit as the Music Coordinator.

One of the distinctives of her classroom is her “workshop”, which is a favorite activity of her students.  In workshop children may choose activities that have the appearance of play but are also learning and reinforcement activities. She also loves to use hands-on activities and illustrative stories to make her teaching meaningful in the lives of her students.  Her love of music and Christ is reflected in what she does whether using her silly songs to transition between subjects or to teach the truth of God’s word.  Her desire in all things is to promote an atmosphere of loving God, others, and learning.

Second Grade Mrs. Karlene EatonKarlene Eaton

Mrs. Eaton has been in education for 25 years. Mrs. Eaton has taught in public and Christian schools. She has a BA in Education from Western Washington State University and a BS in Bible from Multnomah Bible College.

Mrs. Eaton’s husband, the late Dr. Frank Eaton, was the Pastor of Worship at Arcade Church. Before coming to Arcade he taught Music for 30 years at Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon. They have two adult children, and two grandsons.

Mrs. Eaton expresses her love for beauty through gardening and collecting antiques. She expresses her love for the Lord’s work by going on mission trips to such places as the Philippines, Germany, Japan, and India. This summer she has a trip planned to Romania where she will be teaching English as a second language. Mrs. Eaton expresses her love for her students by creating a wonderful atmosphere for learning using the things collected during her life’s experiences. A favorite classroom verse which has become especially meaningful during the past year is Psalm 18:30, “As for God, His way is perfect.”

Third Grade Mrs. Bannister

James 1:22 says, “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” This is a verse Mrs. Kathy Bannister desires to teach her student to live by. The Christian life involves more than just hearing stories. It is serving the Lord and developing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

Mrs. Bannister became a Christian in a third grade Sunday School class. That may be why she has a special place in her heart for that age level which she has taught for sixteen years. This year she was stretched to include fourth grade which she finds equally delightful.

A native of the Sacramento area, Mrs. Bannister graduated from CSU Sacramento with a BA in Liberal Studies and a California teaching credential. Her graduate work was done in the area of special education. She is married and a step-mother to three college age young ladies and a mother to one son.

Hobbies: Ms. Kothny has been singing for as long as she can remember.  One of her favorite activities during the week is praising the Lord as a background vocalist on her church’s worship team.  When she is not teaching, Ms. Kothny enjoys making jewelry, sewing, baking, kayaking, listening to music and spending time with her family.
Favorite Things: Cobalt blue, chocolate, fantastic science experiments, a capella music, and watching her students develop a thirst to know more about God’s world.

Why I Picked Summit: Summit is more than a school to Ms. Kothny.  From her first visit, she enjoyed observing how the teachers, the staff, the students, and the parents all work together like the body of Christ to learn together and support each other. Being able to teach at Summit is an answer to prayer for her.  She looks forward to getting to know all of those who are part of the Summit family.

Sixth Grade Mrs. Cosentino

Amy Cosentino began her teaching career teaching fifth and sixth grades in the San Juan Unified School District at Fair Oaks Elementary School.  It was then she decided that 10 – 12 year olds certainly had to be the most wonderful students with whom to spend six hours a day!  She is excited to be teaching 6th grade for a fourth year here at Summit.

Amy graduated from CSU Sacramento with a BA in journalism and a minor in English.  She also holds a California Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential.  Her favorite subjects to teach are reading, English and history, and her favorite activities with the students are the Ancient Civilization lunches, the 6th Grade Thanksgiving Feast and Science Camp. Her favorite parts of the day are the times when she can encourage her students to live for God’s glory and purpose.  She hopes that her students will heed Proverbs 3: 5-6 – - Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Mrs. Johnson has also led and instructed the Washington DC trip that the 8th graders take each spring. What delight for students to see the history and government they have studied all year in their American History course. The trip is the highlight of their year!
